Regarding the request of all documents containing the number of staff in EIOPA’s Transparency Unit and the budget for the Transparency Unit, we regret to inform you that no documents concerning the matter have been found, corresponding to the description given in your application. In accordance with Article 2(3) of Regulation 1049/2001, EIOPA regrettably is not in a position to handle your application on the matter for access to documents concerning EIOPA’s Transparency unit staffing and budget due to the non-existence of a designated Transparency Unit. Please be advised that the processing of public access applications necessitates the involvement of various EIOPA business areas subject to the scope of the public access application at hand. For this, EIOPA is not able to provide you with a definitive answer concerning the number of full-time staff members dealing with public access applications. We also regret to inform you that EIOPA does not hold any documents in its possession, indicating that number. Please note that EIOPA’s Legal team acts as a hub concerning the processing of such applications, with the Team leader acting, among other things, as a “document access coordinator”, one legal counsel advising, among other things, on Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001, and, in rare instances, one other back-up legal counsel. The involvement of these Legal team members depends on their availabilities and workload. On the matter regarding the request for documents containing data on the handling of access to EU documents, this information is accessible on the EIOPA webpage<https://eiopa.europa.eu/publications/annual-reports>* for the years 2016 (on page 79 of EIOPA’s annual report 2016) and 2017 (page 71 of EIOPA’s annual report 2017). The development of the 2018 annual report is currently in progress. The reported is projected for publication on the EIOPA website on 15.06.2019. Nevertheless, we may inform you that the draft report indicates that in 2018, there have been 7 initial applications and 1 confirmatory application. We advise you to consult the website to confirm the aforementioned numbers for 2018 when the report is officially published.
