Thank you for your inquiry about the staffing and budget of (among others) the JRC's transparency unit.
Please note that the JRC does not have a transparency unit as such. Neither are there staff members exclusively dedicated to the transparency/access to documents agenda. This agenda is dealt with by the JRC unit A.4 (Legal Advice), in collaboration with other units, as necessary, depending on the circumstances. Consequently, there is also no specific budget dedicated to this agenda.
In line with the correspondence you received from the Secretariat-General (below), you received (will receive) the reply on the other parts of your request by the Secretariat-General and the replies from the other respective Directorates-General in due course.

Thank you very much for your e-mails.
· Concerning the first two parts of your request:
"- any and all documents that contain the number of staff in your Transparency Unit (or the department dealing with access to EU documents requests) - this could be, for instance, organigrams or staffing plans that are specific to that unit;
- any and all documents containing the budget for your Transparency Unit (or the department dealing with access to EU documents requests); I would appreciate the most detailed version of this budget possible."
We would like to inform you that all operational units of the Directorates-General concerned by a request of access to documents may be requested to handle them. We consider that you requests only concern the units coordinating the handling of access to documents requests within the relevant Directorates-General.
Since you are interested in the "number of staff in [...] dealing with access to EU documents requests" and the budget "for [the] Transparency Unit (or the department dealing with access to EU documents requests [...])", we would like to propose to provide you with relevant information in our possession under the Code of Good Administrative Behaviour. This will avoid excessive administrative burden while allowing you to receive the information you are interested in.
· For the part of your request concerning:
- " for the years 2017, 2018 and 2019: any and all documents containing data on the handling of access to EU documents requests by this institution [...] specifically for broken down data, per year, on the number of initial access to documents applications received, and the number of confirmatory applications received"
Your request will be registered as an access to documents request under Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001 and you will receive shortly an acknowledgement of receipt.
