Indeed, the foundation has not much advanced (I'm not sure the designation of the foundation as official party foundation ever took Dear colleagues, I have not been copied this time, but this case is indeed, an old one. The EC had an exchange with a German MP back in 2015 on the Erasmus foundation, which the AfD claims to be named after Erasmus von Rotterdam (not after our programme title). Sent from Ernáik secured by Mobilékon Subject: Erasmus hijacking planned I wonder whether you know about it, but the self-styled "Alternative für Deutschland (AfD)", which will hopefully never be seen by enough people here as a real alternative for Germany but which became the third biggest party in parliament following the recent federal elections, has the intention of naming its future foundation (most German political parties have one) after Erasmus (see for example http://www.tagesspiegel.de/politik/parteinahe-stiftungen-erasmus-von- rotterdam-und-die-afd/20507438.html). As someone who apparently had a great sense of humour, the Great Man himself would probably

have laughed this off, but in today's political climate the thought of a right-wing nationalist and fervently anti-EU party choosing Erasmus as its symbol and thereby giving itself an aura of humanism and purporting to be the custodian of European values, frankly doesn't bear thinking about. in case they know more about the situation.
