We have also formally received confirmation of support for our proposals from OICA and CLEPA. Regarding the lane-change time available to the Cl system, we still believe that up to 15 seconds of time is critical to ensure natural, non-confusing vehicle behavior in the large variety of situations that Cl systems encounter on the highway, that is understandable to both the driver and surrounding traffic. Up to 15 seconds is often necessary in situations of where there is faster, medium or heavier traffic and a system needs to 'request space' or allow another vehicle to pass in order to successfully lane-change to the neighboring lane. In some instances, even in average traffic conditions, a Cl system is not able to cross the lane line in time within 5 seconds and self-cancels, urgently returning to the center of the lane. These limitations are not only unnatural, they're also confusing and frustrating to the driver and surrounding traffic. We would be eager to receive your thoughts regarding our proposals and to respond to any outstanding questions or concerns that you may have. We are of course hopeful that Germany will be able to support our proposals at the February GRVA. Please do let us know if a call at any point would be considered useful. The two proposals amending ALKS are new, clearly. The topic of generally "revising" UN R 79 is still a topic on my desk, but 1 unfortunately haven't found the time yet to continue things. 1am of course still very much interested to bring this issue forward, since 1think it is one of the most urgent things to look at, but due to multiple other, unfortunately more pressing matters, 1cannot promise to take an active role here. l'd be really happy if you could keep me informed in case you or others (colleagues from industry) have ideas and maybe we could have an exchange on short notice! We were - for instance - eager to introduce new HMI elements that could help educate and warn the driver in case he risks, is to expect or is experiencing reduced endurance braking performance. l've also that you resubmitted your proposal on the critical situation re: R79, l'm very happy to see, and that Germany has submitted some proposals for increasing the ALKS speed to 130kph and introducing principles for lane changes. 1think many elements of the lane change proposal could be virtually copy pasted as a parallel approach to [Seite]

With regard to UN R 13 (BEV endurance braking systems) we submitted a working document to GRVA (#36), which seems to be very similar to OICA's proposal (#37). This probably results from an exchange with VDA we had some weeks/months ago. 1could not share our document previously, since it was not authorized by my managers yet. Hopefully our explanations in the justification appropriately explain the intention and ideas we have, if not, feel free to get back in touch.
