Fact ofthe case\n\nInformation provided by LCC Elhovo on 16.10.2015.\n\nOn 15.10.2015 at around 21.45 hrs a police patrol from BCU Sredets spotted a big group of\nmigrants. After the police was seen, migrants disobeyed the police orders. Then one of\npolice officers was firing a warning shot. As a result one of the migrants was shot and has\ndied in the vehicle of Ambulance. The case is under monitoring of District Prosecution of\nBurgas. The body was transported to forensic Medicine in Burgas.\n\nUpdated information provided by NFPOC Bulgaria on 22.10.2015.\n\nThe case is being currently investigated by the District Prosecution in Burgas. While pre-\ntrial proceedings take place, there is no authorization any kind of information to be\ndisseminated.\n\nAll that is known is the information posted by the press-center of Ministry of Interior (Mol)\n- Bulgaria. In addition, the illegal migrants are all Afghans. Migrants have been 54\naltogether - all of them men, on a visible age between 20 and 30. The spot where the\nmigrants crossed through is a rugged terrain in a woodland covered by the IBSS. There\nwere 3 police officers. When they tried to detain them under a certain bridge, the illegal\nmigrants had shown aggressive behavior. They rendered resistance and disrespected the\npolice officers. Therefore, as a response to the escalating situation, one of the officers fired\na warning shot. As a result of a rebound (ricochet) the below-mentioned sorrowful accident\nhas happened. It is also notable to be added that the police officers are not young and have\na quite long working experience within the Mol of Bulgaria.\n\n2. Measures\n\nLCC Coordinator from Elhovo informed FOA operational team. The Bulgarian authorities\ninvestigate the case. Process is ongoing.\n\n3. Assessment\n\n01.07.2016\nThe officer responsible for the incident was exculpated by the court. The conclusion of the\nprosecution is that the deed does not represent a criminal offence.",
