The EU institution wants my postal address. What should I do?

For some EU institutions it’s common practice to require a postal address in order to process FOI requests, for example the European Commission. We believe that this practice can have impeding effects with regards to the exercise of our democratic rights.

In order to protect sensitive information, we ensure that if you make use of our portal for accessing documents, personal information will automatically be redacted to the public. This means that if you’re asked to provide an address, these details cannot be publicly viewed if you put your address in the postal address field. Only the institution with which you are communicating can view it.
