What documents can I request from EU institutions?

You can request any and all documents EU institutions have in their possession. These can be documents that have been created by the institutions themselves, or documents that have been sent or handed to an institution by an external actor, such as lobbyists or representatives of national governments.

Examples of types of documents you can request
  • reports,
  • briefings,
  • analysis,
  • evaluations,
  • notes or minutes of meetings,
  • lists of meeting attendees,
  • PowerPoint presentations,
  • contracts,
  • e-mails,
  • letters,
  • SMS messages,
  • organigrams,
  • budgets,
  • expenses forms and receipts,
  • court submissions

If you choose to request a document that you think could have annexes (such as a contract), don’t forget to ask for those too. When requesting correspondence, you can also request all attachments.
