What language can I use to file my request?

You can file your request for information in any of the 24 official languages of the European Union:

Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Irish, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish and Swedish.

Technically, EU institutions need to answer back in the same language you used for your request. However, in practice, and especially when you file requests to smaller EU agencies, they will answer back in English due to a lack of sufficient translation services
