Can you elaborate on the criteria you will be using for the assessment? 15:25 -16:55 Shaping the Strategic Partnership on critical raw materials 90 Minutes  The Canadian counterpart for this point -                     , Director, Critical Minerals Task Force, NRCan •   Objectives and context (10 minutes) o The EU needs raw materials for the green recovery, to get resilient industrial ecosystems and to become a climate­ neutral economy. o Achieving strategic autonomy while preserving an open economy is a key objective of the EU. o The EU has made several strong policy commitments related to the clean energy transition - including the Green Deal - and these commitments will require EU industrial value chains to undertake a major transformation expected to increase the demand for critical raw materials. o The EU announced several partnerships with resource-rich countries as part of its action plan for critical raw materials adopted early September o We see Canada as the natural partner to establish the first partnership - we have a solid framework and mandate. We have a high-level political support. o A strategic partnership between Canada and the EU across the critical raw material value chain, from extraction, to processing, separation, and refining, to downstream manufacturing in key sectors, could support resilient, green and integrated industrial ecosystems in Canada and the EU. o Objectives of this point are: ■ Discuss opportunities for collaboration to build integrated value chains, including by securing project investments and offtake agreements between critical mineral producers and zero-emissions vehicles (ZEV), battery, renewable energy technology, and other strategic industrial ecosystems in Canada and the European Union. ■   Explore ways in which governments can encourage private business to source critical raw material inputs from producers with strong environmental, social and governance (ESG) credentials, including in the context of

It was exclusively for governments. o This trilateral dialogue was established by the EU-US-Japan, in response to growing awareness about raw materials and rare earths in particular. o Canada and Australia joined last year as observers. o At this latest meeting, it was decided accepting Australia and Canada as full members of this forum. > Invite                      to comment on this point • Standard Setting: Lithium standards Canadian counterpart-^1, CanmetMINING, NRCan H and are both participating in the meeting and available to clarify any question on this topic. o We assisted recently on global players very active in developing international standards in key markets to protect and increase their competitive advantages. This is the case of China, proposing a new ISO technical committee to develop international standards for battery-grade lithium and recycled lithium for batteries. Australia has proposed standards for critical raw materials. o This shows clearly how international standards became a strategic and political issue.

Concrete date to be agreed and announced.
