The Phosphorus Regulations National Implementation Report 2005 is the third such national report. It was prepared under Article 4(4) of the Local Government (Water Pollution) Act, 1977 (Water Quality Standards for Phosphorus) Regulations, 1998 (SI No. 258 of 1998). The report was prepared from information and water quality data submitted by local authorities in their Implementation Reports and from water quality data collected by the EPA in the 2001-2003 period. The report outlines the action being taken by Ireland to halt and reverse the deterioration of water quality in rivers, lakes, estuaries and coastal areas due to pollution caused by phosphorus.
