At our meeting on 15 September 2005 the Commission sought specific
information in relation to aerial fertilisation of forest plantations and
current planting policy, guidelines etc.

The data required has been compiled by the Forest Service of the
Department of Agriculture and Food and is herewith.

The Forest Service has advised this Department that aerial fertilisation is
only done after establishment and when the site is fully vegetated. This
usually takes place at thicket stage or post thicket stage, i.e. 15 to 20
years after planting. The Forest Service has also furnished the following
statistics in relation to the aerial fertilisation approval system for the
period 2003 to 2005:
