On 17/05/2021 at Text Removed - Reporting Tools ESP/GC/OPV detected a fast
boat sailing forwards to Spanish coast line, ESP/GC/OPV auxiliary boats rescued
the mentioned boat. There were 14 POB onboard including 3 injured persons and
one deceased. The injured occupants were transferred to the Hospital by
ESP/SASEMAR/HELO.

9 migrants, a skipper (who got arrested) and the corpse were transferred to
ESP/GC/CPV in order to be taken to Text Removed - Operational Area.

14 POB: 12 migrants rescued, a skipper got arrested and 1 corpse was recovered
Hospital informed that 1 of the injured persons died at the hospital on

Text Removed - Human Resources reported on 06.05.2021 that according to
information received from Text Removed - Human Resources a Text Removed -
Human Resources was hospitalised in Chios hospital, Greece. The Text Removed
- Human Resources was suffering from pain in the abdominal body region,
accompanied by nausea. The respective examination at the hospital showed an
internal blood swelling caused by a broken rip due to an accident some weeks
ago. No medical assistance was sought by the colleague at that time. The
incident had occurred off duty. According to additional information, a blood
drainage is deemed to be necessary to ensure decongestion at the mentioned
area. The Text Removed - Human Resources will need to remain under
observation at Chios hospital for some days.

transferred to Athens for more elaborated medical investigations.

e On 18.05.2021, he underwent a medical surgery (one litre of blood inside his
chest was drained). The medical procedure went accordingly.

e On 26.05.2021, he was transferred from Athens to Stockholm, his current
condition is good, and he will continue his recovery in SWE.

27.01.2021 until 19.05.2021.

The unfortunate incident which further led to hospitalisation and medical

On 29th April at Text Removed - Reporting Tools a rubber boat, with
approximately 50 migrants onboard, was early detected by Text Removed -
Technical Equipment at Text Removed - Operational Area, Text Removed -
Operational Area, inside Turkish TW. The information has been passed to the
Text Removed - Technical Equipment, and Text Removed - Reporting Tools
informed further on MRCC Ankara. The respective rubber boat was escorted by
two (02) TCG patrol boats, which executed dangerous manoeuvres close to the
HCG assets.

At Text Removed - Reporting Tools, a second alert has been sent by Text

Reporting Tools, one of the TCG patrol boats took over responsibility of the
incident under the close monitoring of the HCG assets.

In their response Text Removed - Reporting Tools informed that there hasn’t
been any such additional information related to the incident from Text Removed
- Reporting Tools side.

Text Removed - Human Resources of the JO Poseidon, during the - Text Removed
- Reporting Tools, reiterated the specific instructions given to the crews related
to the patrolling activities at sea, emphasising that deployed TEs should not
respond to the hostile actions coming from TCG’s side, but maintain the safety
distance all the time during their patrolling.

The described actions of the Turkish Coast Guard during the respective incident
seem to disregard the maritime safety standards. The incident raised serious
safety and security concerns to the crews of the vessels/boats deployed by EU
Member States within the Frontex coordinated Joint Operation Poseidon. Frontex
assets deployed in the area must constantly assess the situational environment,
as the Turkish Coast Guard still employs a mix of cooperative actions, by taking
over migrants in the Turkish territorial waters, but also performing hostile
behaviours nearby the Greek Territorial Waters.

reported the final report for the closure of the Text Removed - Reporting Tools
without any additional actions on the specific incident.

It has been noted that the incident was also reported by the Text Removed -
Human Resources to the EU COM and the Text Removed - Human Resources.
(Cabinet prepared an official letter to the Commission and to the Text Removed
- Human Resources, signed by the Text Removed - Human Resources, in order to
raise the attention to the geopolitical aspect of the situation once again.)

The Text Removed - Reporting Tools prepared the usual communication towards
all stakeholders, mentioning that, despite the incident hasn’t presumed
involvement of deployed Frontex assets, it was still concerning the operational
area of the JO Poseidon.

According to the Text Removed - Reporting Tools from 02.05.2021:

- During the mission at Text Removed - Reporting Tools was received information
from Text Removed - Reporting Tools, to observe Text Removed - Operational
Area. During the task at Text Removed - Reporting Tools, at position Removed -
Operational Area happened collision with unmarked underwater object (possible
rock), during collision was damaged all engines gearboxes. CPB was transferred
to Text Removed - Operational Area for detailed inspection. According
mentioned information the CPB is out of order for an indefinite time.

No crew members were injured during the incident.

LVA CBP will be technically inspected to asses the damages.
The damaged gearbox will be replaced.

The nature of the object is not revealed, but other crew members in Lesvos
were briefed to avoid the area.

after proper inspection two engines of CPB were found to be fully operational
but the third engine's gearbox had to be replaced. The gearbox purchase has
been agreed with Text Removed - Reporting Tools, gearbox ordered and is
expected to be received on Saturday, 08.05.2021. Fitting is planned on Sunday,
09.05.2021.

If there will be no delays with delivery or any fitting problems, from Monday
10.05.2021. LVA CPB could be back to full operational capacity.

The new gearbox was fitted 09.05 and the boat will be tested 10.05.

If everything works fine, the patrol could be resumed on 10.05. at Text Removed
- Reporting Tools.

On 13/05/2021 the Text Removed - Reporting Tools confirmed that the Text
Removed - Technical Equipment deployed at Lesvos was fully operational and
had been patrolling from 10/05/2021.
